Netherlands Virtual Observatory

Welcome to the home page of the Netherlands Virtual Observatory (NLVO). On these pages we introduce the Virtual Observatory, and describe the work being undertaken by the Dutch community to improve VO standards and increase the amount of astronomical data shared through the VO protocols.

Shown at right is an example of combining public Dutch data using the VO. The image of Messier 101 from the LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey (LoTSS; Shimwell et al., 2017) is overplotted with contours from the Westerbork Northern Sky Survey (WENSS; Rengelink et al., 1997).

The Virtual Observatory

The Virtual Observatory (VO) is the vision that astronomical datasets and other resources should work as a seamless whole. Many projects and data centres worldwide are working towards this goal under the aegis of the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA). The NLVO is an IVOA member.
